Cold To The Bone

The wind blows from the north across the reservoir straight into my driveway in the same exact place where the snow landed all night long. My gloves now have holes in them from a winter's work pushing and scraping and shoving the ice and snow to who knows where. My old bones ache from the bitter cold being driven through my clothes and skin. I cannot see through the tears in my eyes from the wind whipping around my head. For the third time today I move the snow only to have it blow back. Why did I not just stay by the hearth and just watch it blow instead of my futile attempt to thwart nature? This morning I looked at the calendar and it is March 31. The last day of March. It is spring somewhere but not here. g
