Give Of Yourself

I was just watching CNN and they had a piece on Michelle Obama working at a Soup Kitchen in Washington D.C. today. I don't ever remember a First Lady working in a soup kitchen.

Good for her and good for what she said.

She commented that in these hard times we do not always have money to give or the ability to buy food for hungry people but we can all give of ourselves. She said that this morning she was working with six other women in the kitchen cooking lunch. She said that all of the women could qualify to get a free meal but they had decided to become part of the solution rather than part of the problem and were helping out fixing meals.

I am in my fifth month of working at the Summit Community Care Clinic in Frisco providing low cost medical care for low income and uninsured members of our community. I work six hours a day, five days a week at the clinic. We saw 58 patients on Monday.I would challenge a fully funded clinic to provide assistance to that number of people.

I work along side an older woman who comes to the clinic after she finishes her volunteer shift at the Summit County Library doing much the same work. She is a file clerk for the library and a file clerk for the clinic.

Ask yourself if you have some time to give and then start calling around for a place that needs help. It could be a child care facility or the animal shelter. I know that you have time to give and that there are places that need your time. g
