The smell of wood burning

It was 25 degrees this morning at my house.

When it is that cold early in the morning my neighbors will sometimes throw some wood on their fireplace to take the chill out of the house. It is easy to tell when that happens because the wood smoke smell will come into my house. Not an unpleasant smell. Much like aroma therapy and it brings back many memories of bygone years in various places in this world.

Sometimes the smell makes me walk through the house checking to make sure that something is not burning here inside my home. Of course there never is anything burning but it is a good exercise. I do have six or seven smoke detectors and two carbon monoxide detectors so I would hope that one of them would go off if something was on fire.

I have two fireplaces. One in the living room and one in the master bedroom. Both are gas and if it were not for the neighbors I might not ever smell wood burning. That is ok. They can have the pleasure of cutting, splitting and hauling the wood while I get the nice smell of burning wood without getting off my couch.
