I have my class schedule for this summer. I will be teaching Contemporary World History (20th Century), Introduction to Sociology I and a new one, Contemporary Social Problems. I had seen that on some other schedules at other campuses and it looked interesting. It is actually the next iteration of Sociology where we will look at issues in a more focused and in-depth study of the problems that society faces today. I have spent a lot of time living in third world countries and have actually worked in urban ghettos in the past. I think that most of my students today have a jaded view of the world and have a hard time understanding illiteracy and poverty. Short of doing what I have done this course should give them some idea of what the other side of life is like in the world. I would hope that they would end up with some compassion and caring for those less fortunate.
