I think it must go back to my mother. Every day she would tune the radio to the station in Storm Lake to get the hospital report and the local deaths. The obituaries. I remember reading the obituaries every day until I stopped subscribing to the paper a few years back. Now I read them on line. Even though I was the county coroner for eight years I am not fascinated with death. In fact I refuse to attend funerals or memorial services. Too macabre. What I am interested in is reading about what a person did with their lives. How they spent their time before they died and not how they died. Funerals and memorial services are for the living. To see and be seen and not about the person who died.
