Police...

...officers see things in black or white.  They do not see gray at all.  Either it is or it is not.  Simple but dangerous.  The recent law enacted in Arizona will create havoc with police officers.  They will see it as giving them permission to stop and question anyone for any reason in any place at any time.  The police will deny that they participate in racial profiling.  They will say that they are just doing what the Arizona state legislature has mandated that they do in the interest of finding persons who are in the United States illegally.  The law makes it a misdemeanor to be in the United States illegally and will allow the police in Arizona to ticket anyone who cannot prove their country of origin and has the paperwork to prove that they are in the country legally.  I driver's license is not proof.  A passport or birth certificate is proof.  If you have dark skin, dark hair and dark eyes you had better start carrying all of your proof of your legal status with you at all times in Arizona or you will get a ticket.  Even the most radical of you out there have to admit that this is incredibly stupid and unenforceable.  Just remember that your friendly cop on the beat cannot see gray.  Only black or white.  Scary.
